The construction of the Kigongo-Busisi bridge has been said to be beneficial to the people of Mwanza Region and neighboring regions as well as the surrounding countries.

Among the advantages is shortening the trip and saving a lot of time during the trip, especially the trips from Mwanza to Geita to Sengerema, about 210 kilometers, while for that trip, if you go through the Kigongo-Busisi bridge, it is about 90 kilometers.

This was said on April 23, 2023 in Sengerema district by the Chief Executive of the Tanzania Road Agency (TANROADS), Engineer Rogatus Mativila speaking to journalists where he said the construction of the bridge is going well and has reached 72 percent.

Speaking about the current situation in the area where the bridge is being built, Engineer Mativila said, it takes the citizens and wastes a long time to cross from one side to the other.

"Kigongo-Busisi Bridge is very important, first is to save time, people spend up to four hours to go to the second part to cross but when the bridge is finished we will be spending only 4 minutes to cross" said Engineer Mativila

He also said that the bridge will be an important link between Mwanza region and neighboring regions as well as neighboring countries.

"The Kigongo-Busisi Bridge connects the people of Mwanza with the regions of Geita, Kagera and neighboring countries including Uganda, this bridge is very important" emphasized Engineer Mativila

The construction of the Kigongo-Busisi bridge started in February 2020 and its construction is expected to be completed on February 25, 2024 and it costs 716 billion shillings where until now the bridge construction project has provided about 1,001 job opportunities.
